Message Summary

We are announcing the final step in the retirement of ‘Office 365 Security and Compliance Center’ (protection.office.com). This is a continuation of our migration to our new portals: the Microsoft 365 Defender portal, Microsoft Purview compliance portal, and modern Exchange admin center.

As a reminder, the following transitions have already completed:

  • Office 365 Security solutions – fully moved to the Microsoft 365 Defender portal (security.microsoft.com), announced in MC320940 in February 2022.
  • Compliance solutions – fully moved to the Microsoft Purview compliance portal (compliance.microsoft.com), announced in MC244886 in March 2021.
  • Mail flow solutions – fully moved to the Modern Exchange admin center (admin.exchange.microsoft.com), also announced in MC320940 in February 2022.

Until now, all customers were using the new portals, either via direct access or via automatic redirection from the Office 365 Security and Compliance Center.  Now, as we move to the final step of the retirement of the Office 365 Security and Compliance Center, we will stop all redirection to the new portals.

If you still go to Office 365 Security and Compliance Center (protection.office.com), please update any internal links or bookmarks you have to the old portal.

Please note that we have already updated all portals, email notifications and APIs. At this point – beyond using internally stored links – you should not be landing in the Office 365 Security and Compliance Center anymore.

When this will happen:

Standard Release: We will begin rolling out early October 2022 and expect to complete by November 2022.

How this will affect your organization:

Users accessing the new portals (Microsoft 365 Defender portal, Microsoft Purview compliance portal and the modern Exchange admin center) will not be impacted.

Users accessing the old Office 365 Security and Compliance Center (protection.office.com) and being redirected to the new portals will need to update their internal links or bookmarks and move to the new portals for all of their workflows.

This change impacts all customers who still use the Office 365 Security and Compliance Center (protection.office.com), including Microsoft Defender for Office (Plan 1 or Plan 2), Microsoft 365 E3 / E5, Office 365 E3 / E5 and Exchange Online Protection. For the full list, see Microsoft 365 and Office 365 platform service descriptions | Microsoft Docs.

This change impacts all users who log in to the Office 365 Security and Compliance Center (protection.office.com), including security teams as well as end-users who access the email quarantine experience at https://security.microsoft.com/quarantine.

What you need to do to prepare:

Please ensure awareness of resources who may be going to the old Office 365 Security and Compliance Center (protection.office.com) and being redirected to the new portals to update their internal links or bookmarks and move to the new portals for all of their workflows.
