Technical Bulletin MC687845 · Published Nov 7, 2023

Message Summary

We are introducing a change to display the name of the outbound pool used to send a message externally from within Exchange Online. The name of the outbound pool will be included within the message tracing output. This will simplify troubleshooting of mail flow scenarios for Exchange Service Administrators.

When this will happen:

This feature is currently rolling out and we expect the change to be fully enabled by mid-November 2023.

How this will affect your organization:

The new outbound pool name property is displayed as part of message tracing output. For example, if you trace the message using PowerShell, a new property OutboundIpPoolName will be present in the output and will contain the name of the outbound pool which was used to send that message externally.

For example:

Get-MessageTraceDetail -MessageTraceId cb72b4a7-6ca6-4ac4-a6d8-ca0982e2e041 -SenderAddress sender@contoso.com -RecipientAddress recipient@adatum.com

Data :  S:OutboundIpPool=1102;S:OutboundIpPoolName=RegularOutboundPool

What you need to do to prepare:

You do not need to take any actions to enable this feature on your tenant. We will roll it out automatically.
