SharePoint Curtain Reveal Tech Bulletin Header

Office for the Web, SharePoint Online, SharePoint Development Services

From Microsoft Corporation
Technical Bulletin MC489165 · Published Dec 20, 2022

Message Summary

We’re making changes to Microsoft Search. This update will allow Microsoft Search administrators to change result layouts for select SharePoint content using adaptive cards with Result Type feature in Microsoft Search administration.

The default result layouts for SharePoint sites, pages, list items and Portable document format (PDF) results can now be replaced with layouts built using adaptive cards. The changes can be made for Organization level search applicable to Office.com and SharePoint home as well as site level search on SharePoint sites. Changes for Microsoft Search in Bing will be rolled out soon. Note that the feature does not support changing of Office file search results.

This message is associated with Microsoft 365 Roadmap ID 81952

When this will happen:

This feature will begin rolling out gradually to Targeted Release beginning late December 2022 and will complete mid-January 2023

How this will affect your organization:

This feature does not change the current behavior on the Search page and requires Search administrations to make changes as required. Administrations will be able to change layouts for select SharePoint results.

These new customization capabilities can be accessed in the Search & intelligence admin center under the “Customizations” tab as well as Site administration page under “Result type” tab.

What you need to do to prepare:

Review Manage result types | Microsoft Learn if you wish to modify search result layouts.

You might want to notify your users about this new capability and update your training and documentation as appropriate.
