Message Summary
With the upcoming Internet Explorer 11 desktop application retirement (June 15th), for certain versions of Windows 10, we recommend that you move users to Microsoft Edge and explain how to access legacy websites by reloading those sites in Internet Explorer (IE) mode.
This message is associated with Microsoft 365 Roadmap ID 88905.
When this will happen:
We will begin rolling this out in late March and expect to complete rollout early April.
- See Setup page in the admin center.
How this will affect your organization:
If your organization has legacy sites and apps with Internet Explorer dependencies, the Get fast, secure browsing with Microsoft Edge feature provides an easy way to send your employees guidance to get started with Microsoft Edge. In March, you can include instructions on how to enable IE mode in Microsoft Edge and reload a legacy website using it. You can customize the email to include:
- How to download Microsoft Edge.
- How to sign in and sync passwords, favorites, and settings.
- How to turn on security and performance features.
- (New) How to enable Internet Explorer mode and reload legacy websites in Internet Explorer mode.
What you need to do to prepare:
If you want your individuals in your org to have access to this feature, make sure they are assigned an admin role, like Global Reader.
For instructions, see Assign a role to a cloud group in Azure Active Directory.
