Message Summary
Microsoft Viva Topics and SharePoint Syntex customers can build on their existing investments in classifying & organizing content with the ability to use the taxonomy service in Syntex and SharePoint to generate topics. This new integration uses the term names, including those you are already using with SharePoint Syntex, descriptions, synonyms & tagged files to create topics that the AI can use as a seed to discover additional connections with people & files.
Note: You will need to have Viva Topics purchased and set up in your organization to see this feature.

When this will happen:
- Targeted release (entire org): Rolling out from late February to early March.
- Standard release: Rolling out from mid-March to late March.
How this will affect your organization:
Users who can edit global terms will see an option to create topics from them (both in the SharePoint admin center and the site-level term stores). This will be available under ‘Usage settings’ for individual terms selected.

For selecting multiple terms at a time, there will also be an option available under ‘Usage settings’ for the term set that contains the terms.

After you request a new topic, you can review status at the same locations.

What you need to do to prepare:
You may want to update any internal documentation & user training related to Viva Topics to reflect the availability of this feature.
You may also want to review existing taxonomies and usage to determine term sets that can be used or require augmentation to integrate with Topics. You may also consider deploying Syntex to apply taxonomies to content automatically.
